Arlecchino is the most popular of the comic servant characters in the Italian Commedia dell’arte. Known also as ‘Harlequin’ a stock character in French passion plays, New Orleans Mardi Gras celebrations, and even ‘Harley Quinn’ from Batman, Arlecchino is know for his agility and colorful costume and never performs a simple action when and additional cartwheel would spice things up.
In the garden, the Oriental Hybrid Lily ‘Arlecchino’ certainly will spice things up with ever so rich pink color. The wonderful spotting pattern mimics the quilted jester costumes associated with the colorfully dressed Arlecchino character of the Busoni opera. As you step closer to view the bright yellow throat that really sets of the pink coloration, you will be compelled to turn cartwheels of your own over the fragrance of this beauty. A July bloomer, ‘Arlecchino’ reaches 3 to 4 feet in the garden.
