Lily Bulb Description

'Mambo' - Oriental Hybrid Lily Bulb
Flower Description: Let’s MAMBO! This flashy Cuban dance steps name actually hales to the back country of Haiti where “Mambo” is a voodoo priestess serving the villagers as their counselor, healer, spiritual adviser and is the organizer of their public entertainment. The fusion of American Swing and Cuban music produced the fascinating rhythm that brought about the creation of this sensational dance. Introduced in 1943 at the La Tropicana night club in Cuba, this music has been featured as a base for varying styles by Tito Puente and Xavier Cugat. As the Mambo craze exploded on the American dance floor in the 50’s, dancers became know as “Mambonicks”.

Not as wild in the garden, but destined to become just as popular as the dance was back in the 50’s, this is your opportunity to make your garden a “Mambonick”. With a similar deep, intensely black-red shading like ‘Sumatra’, Mambo has more of a star-like appearance but still carries the familiar spicy sweet scent of the purebred Oriental Hybrids. Like ‘Sumatra’ it’s larger cousin, the nectary centers carry the unique chocolate star rarely found in Oriental Lilies.

Due to the intense, dark color of Mambo, she best shows her stuff in bright indirect sun, or in cooler summer climates, full sun, and is best used as an accent plant. Coupled with white’s such as ‘Crystal Blanca’ or ‘Garden Angel’, ‘Mambo’ will knock your socks off with the contrast in colors. 'Mambo' made its introductory debut at the 2010 Northwest Flower & Garden show where it was a sell out in the first two days. 3 Feet. July Flowering. Fragrant.
