Product Description

'Double Vision' - Double Flowered Oriental Lily Bulb
Classification: Oriental Hybrid Lily Bulb (USDA Zones 5-9, colder climates w/winter mulch.)

Stock # 7345 - 'Double Vision' - Oriental Lily Bulb

The most “fluffy” of the New Double Flowered Oriental Introductions, ‘Double Vision’ will inspire double-takes by your garden visitors and thus should be planted where the delicate shades of pink, spicy-sweet fragrance and multitude of extra petals can be enjoyed up close. As with all pastel pink Orientals, we advise that in hotter climates, bulbs should be planted in afternoon shade or all-day bright shade to enhance and prolong the pink hues. July Flowering, 3 to 4 Feet.

NOTE: Photo inset was taken in a cool "breeding" greenhouse on 23 July of 2009 showing an even more delicate pink coloration. This house maintains a constant daytime temperature in the mid to upper 70's and is covered with a 50% shade cloth. This softer pink color is closer to what we are seeing in our July bloom in the field as well where temperatures are running about 15 degrees above what they have been the last two seasons, or more our normal summer highs. What does this all mean? In warmer areas, 'Double Vision' is going to be a very soft pastel pink. During cool periods, the pink coloration will intensify.

In what is almost becoming an annual event in Holland, 'Double Vision' has undergone a name change as well. Needing an "official introduction" variety, after B & D Lilies Exclusive introduction of this lily in the fall of 2009 as 'Double Vision', Holland decided to refer to this clone as 'Lilytopia' or 'Lily Topia' (even the spelling is undecided) to co-incide with a growers syposium by the same name. As with other varieties whoes names have been changed, we are sticking with the original introductory name.

At least 'Double Vision' has a meaning when you view this flower. What does "Topia" mean? It is a suffix meaning "condition of" or refers to the placement of organs in the body. So, 'Lilytopia' means this is a "condition of" lily or refers to where this lily is placed in the body. It all boggles the mind.
