Product Description

Flower Description: This wonderful, upfacing Oriental lily set its sights on the stars before any other introduction, and it has become a classic. Lots of sweetly-scented, crimson blooms with dark spots and white edging cover each stem. We estimate there are at least 4 different "Star Gazers" being produced in Holland for the cut flower or forcing trade and as such are also marketed as 'Star Gazer' to those in the garden trade. Our original bulbs came from the hybridizer, Leslie Woodriff in 1980. This photo was taken on our back deck in 1982.

When you see all of the different photos of "Star Gazer" on the web, you have to wonder why. Why? The original does not propagate as quickly as the pseudo 'Star Gazers' and as such cost more to produce. For them it is simple Economics 101. Looks similar, name recognition, costs less to produce, larger margin, and they know that most people won't know the difference. 3 Feet, July Flowering. Fragrant.
