Lily Bulb Description

'Precious Love' takes us back to the days of yesteryear and the more delicate, species look once found in the garden. Similar in coloration pattern to 'Sweetheart', 'Precious Love' carries the graceful, flirtatious and seductive 'come hither look' of Mother Natures wild lilies. These semi-pendant forms are not the first pick of the cut flower breeders as the florists do not like working with them but want a more uniform out to somewhat upfacing look. It is a shame lilies such as 'Precious Love' have long been forgotten in Holland.

To quote Johan's introductory email of 7/16/19, he said, “This one just started to flower yesterday, and to be honest, it is one of my favorites. The whole plant by itself I think is very elegant. Its flower can stay in the house as there is hardly any fragrance. The color does not fade. It is one of my faster growing bulbs. In answer to your question of what is in it? L. henryi and an unknown something else but I am pretty sure there is no Trumpet due to the light fragrance."

The only thing left out in Johan's initial email is that 'Precious Love' was named to honor his wife Ria on their 50th anniversary. We have known the Mak's for upwards of 30 years and Ria is truly Johan's 'Precious Love'. Flowering in mid July in his Salem, Oregon area field, she is usually 3 to 4 feet tall. We suspect that older, well settled bulbs will probably be 5 feet or more. Mid July / Early August. Light Fragrance.

Bulb Size - Our standard for bulbs of this lily cultivar ranges from Premium-size» (16/18 cm) to Exhibition-size» (over 20 cm). Click here for details.
