'Bonbini' - Private Harvest™ Orienpet
Lily Bulb Description
Flower Description: The word ‘Bonbini’ means "welcome" in the Papimiento language. The language itself more describes this flower that “welcome” does. A crazy mix of words from the Arawak Indian dialect, Spanish, Dutch, along with a confusing mixture of African dialects with a little Portuguese, English, and a smidgen of French thrown in, makes for one crazy language, almost as crazy as this ‘Bonbini’ and it’s crazy color combination. Crazy yes, but it all works!
This is a very striking as well as attention grabbing lily to say the least. The delicate pink tracing outlining or "halo" in the center of each petal tends to fade in hot, direct sun. In our cool, NW climate, it has held up in full sun to light afternoon shade. In the warmer states, it is best planted in dappled sun throughout the day or light afternoon shade. 3 to 4 Feet and taller. July Flowering. Fragrant.
Photo inset is of “average” stem of 'Bonbini' taken on June 3, 2012. Judging from stem size compared to a quarter and based on experience, we expect these bulbs to easily exceed 24 cms in circumference with most ranging close to 30 cms in circumference. This particular bed is made up of 5 year old bulbs from scales and many will be producing a double nose and divide in their next season.
As Mother Nature can be a bit fickle, especially here in NW Washington, should any of our listed Private Harvest™ varieties not make expected size, we will contact you for options before shipping.
Bulb Size - Our standard for bulbs of this lily cultivar ranges from Premium-sizeª (16/18 cm) to Exhibition-sizeª (over 20 cm). Click here for details.
Classification: Orienpet Hybrid Lily Bulb (USDA Zones 5-9, the colder climates of this range must provide winter mulching.)
