Flower Description: Another Johan Mak masterpiece. ‘Buckaroo’ has been in the works for over a decade. As he got closer to introduction, we showed the first photos to the public in 2006 in our “In the Works” section of our web site. Last year, ‘Buckaroo’ lead off the Oriental section of our web sites to help stimulate desire and boy did we get the emails. Quite possibly the finest pink we have ever seen, ‘Buckaroo’ has proven itself in even direct 103 F. sunlight in the summer of 2008 in Johan's Scio, Oregon field. Heavily spotted, 'Buckie' certainly adds character to the garden. Growing to about 3 feet, a little taller in light shade, ‘Buckaroo’ also carries the familiar Oriental Lily fragrance.
In the initial release we mentioned ‘Buckaroo’ may be a transitional name, because try as we might, we simply could not come up with a better descriptive name. By definition, ‘Buckaroo’ is a term used for someone whose name you do not know and so, at that time, felt it would do. As it turns out, the name has been popular among our customers and so will remain.
With a limited release in the fall of 2010, those first 11 bulbs came directly out of the Mak breeding and testing grounds. Johan had already scaled enough stock that those bulbs were not needed for future propagation and he asked that we list them at that time for him which we are more than happy to do. Because of the limited numbers, we did limit purchases to just 1 bulb per customer to give everyone an equal chance. They sold out immediately following mention in that months news letter. For spring 2012, there are 100 bulbs being made available from the breeder/grower.
'Buckaroo' reaches a height of 3 Feet plus, is a July bloomer, and carries a sweet, spicy fragrance.
