Classification: Oriental Hybrid (USDA Zones 5-9, colder climates w/winter mulch.)Stock # 7162 - 'Distant Drum' - aka 'Double Pink Rose' - Oriental Lily Bulb
Here is a fun new Double Flowered Oriental. Coming out of the “Rose Flowered” series in Holland, we purchased a number of these bulbs for our garden trials. The breeder, being highly regarded and one who is known for selecting winners, makes this a good bet for the garden. The bulbs of 'Distant Drum' we are shipping for spring 2010 delivery are coming directly from Holland as our first US produced crop will not be until the fall of 2010. Absolutely no one if the US has had any experience with this cultivar for overall performance as a long lived garden lily, but based on experience we feel this beauty will be a winner. This is a new as they get.
As the grower provided photo shows, this is a rather full double and shows a great deal of advancement over earlier selections from this line. It has been reported as being quite color fast and carries the same fragrance typical of all Oriental Hybrid Lilies. A July bloomer, ‘Distant Drum’ grows to 3 to 4 Feet.Note: December 28, 2009. Since uploading our spring 2010 catalog listing on December 5, this lily, which we then referred to as "No-Name" has now been named ‘Distant Drum’. It is showing up on a number of web sites being listed for as much as $14.99 EACH. As this lily does not have a proven long term track record in the garden, we feel this is an unconscionable price. While we could raise our price to more nearly match that of catalogers, as growers, we feel this would be a disservice to our customers and your garden budget and are holding at our original $4.95 each OR $1.99 each for qualifying orders. Please read on for our special “trial bulb” pricing on ‘Distant Drum’.
This lily is now also being sold as 'Double Pink Rose'. As new names continue to pop up on the web marketer sites, we will keep you posted.
Bulb Size - Our standard for bulbs of this lily cultivar ranges from Premium-size" (16/18 cm) to Exhibition-size" (over 20 cm). Click here for details.
