Lily Bulb Description
Spicy fragrance, 3 to 4 Feet. Mid / Late July flowering.
Named for the island 'Novaya Zemlya' but best known in Holland as 'Nova Zembla' it is where the Dutch explorers Willem Barentsz and Jacob van Heemskerk were stranded during the winter of 1596 – 1597 while seeking the fabled Northeast Passage to the Indies. We can only imagine the amount of pure white snow and ice they experienced that winter while stranded and sheltered in Het Behouden Huys surrounded by the frozen Arctic Sea.
'Nova Zambla', the lily, is as pure white as the winter snows and will only warm your spirit while in bloom, not freeze you out. These flowers are huge and extremely fragrant with elongated white spots. We love the slightly ruffled curls of the petal edges. Just a hint of green in the centers do not spoil but enhance the overall look. This July bloomer carries an enchanting sweet scent. Stems are 3 to 4 feet.
