Our world has 24 different time zones but we only have one ‘Time Zone’ Lily and this new Orienpet Hybrid introduction is good enough to grow in every one of them. We view in excess of 30,000 new seedlings every single year. From those maybe 100 are selected for evaluation. From there, 15 to 20 make it to market 8 to 12 years later. This does not include “samples” sent by growers and breeders in Holland that might have been selected out of several million seedlings and are in the final stages of production. Seeing so many lilies each year for over 3 decades, we feel we have seen just about all there is to see. THEN something like ‘Time Zone’ comes along and wow.
Those who know or have talked to Bob know that he is passionate about what he grows and works with in the field and that it takes a great deal to excite him. This is one of those “WOW” lilies even for Bob. The color is such a beautiful lavender/rose color and is so clean, and the white center accent so pure, there simply is nothing else like it. Those that follow breeding lines and have watched ‘Robina’, ‘Vice Versa’, ‘Maywood’, and ‘Donato’ (and they are still all great garden lilies) will recognize the heritage behind ‘Time Zone’. She is not a replacement for her predecessors, but certainly is a refinement of their combined beauty. 3 to 4 Feet or taller. July/August Bloom. Fragrant.
Photo inset is of “average” stem of 'Time Zone' taken on June 3, 2012. Judging from stem size compared to a quarter and based on experience, we expect these bulbs to easily exceed 24 cms in circumference with most ranging close to 30 cms in circumference. This particular bed is made up of 5 year old bulbs from scales and many will be producing a double nose and divide in their next season.
As Mother Nature can be a bit fickle, especially here in NW Washington, should any of our listed Private Harvest™ varieties not make expected size, we will contact you for options before shipping.
Bulb Size - Our standard for bulbs of this lily cultivar ranges from Premium-size» (16/18 cm) to Exhibition-size» (over 20 cm). Click here for details.
